After your literature circle has met face to face. Please summarize your discussion breifly concentrating on the discussion your group had. Also, please post one question you have or statement, that is resounding with you since you began reading this book. For example, if I were reading The Hunger Games, as question I may have at the middle of the book is why does Katniss feel she has to defy the capitol and "show them?"
Lastly, please post in response to what one other person posted, specifically responding either to their discussion or their "resounding question/statement."
Our group mainly talked about Tom Telford's death. We talked about how we think he died, who killed him, and why they killed him. We also talked about the convention that is going to happen.

I think the poacher killed Tom Telford because he was trying to extend the hunting ban.

DeleteWe talked about the hunting ban and Tom Telfords murder. We talked about who killed tom and where his body is. We think his body is in the quick sand and that the poacher they saw hunting killed Tom and Alvin Howell. We talked about who we think will get their way with the hunting ban and we think chip will because maybe they will feel bad for them, and because Tom said that there is room for 800 more bears, and there is a possible crime scene in the swamp.

DeleteMadison, I do think Chip and Sam will start dating because they both secretly feel for each other. They like each other but they won't admit it. I think by the end of the book they will admit they like each other and start dating.
DeleteI think that Sam and Chip really like each other and Chip wants Sam to feel as he feels about the bears and swamp. Plus I really think Sam and Chip will date at the end of the book like hunger games with Katniss and Peeta

We also think that that same poacher killed Alvin Howell, but we don't know why. When we were discussing the hunting ban we talked about who was going to win the fight and we decided Chip would probably win because the hunters might feel sorry for him and see his connection with the bears. The group also talked about if we think Henry or any of the other bears might die and who would have killed them.
ReplyDeleteTom died because the poacher, Tom and Chip saw the poacher and he didn't want to go to jail. He murdered Tom and Jack Slade admitted to killing Alvin Howell for his betting debt SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteAlvin Howell's death might have some connection with Tom's death. We thought it was probably the poacher. If so what is the connection with the death's and why were each of them killed?

The other day in class we discussed symbols in your novel, please tell about what symbols you saw present in your novel, then discuss what they symbolize. You may want to do some online research about universal symbols that occur in many novels if you think you have a universal symbol (some examples are: gold, animals, and colors such as red).

I think the symbol is the swamp. I think it is the swamp because it always goes back to the swamp. The hunters are fighting for rights to hunt in the SWAMP. Tom was probably killed in the SWAMP. Buddy Bailey poached in the SWAMP.

DeleteThe bear is a symbol in the Weirdo because a symbolizes bravery and Chip, Sam, and the Hunters are all brave. They all stand up for the bears and what they think is right. Therefore, the people are being brave just like a bear.

ReplyDeleteAnother way the bear is a symbol is that a bear symbolizes power and in the book the hunters have power in the ban issue and also Chip has "power" over Sam in his dad because he influences them to do things. The hunters have power regarding the ban issue because there are so many of them and they won't back down from what they want. (I put power in parentheses because Chip doesn't really have power he just has a way of getting them to do something.) Overall, I think the bear is a good symbol for our book!
Hannah, I completely agree with you. I think that the bear does symbolize power. Everyone has power or something diretly realated to bears. It makes complete sense. If you read my post you can see, we have the same idea or point.
DeleteI Think the swamp symbolizes a dark presence. Bad things happen in there murders, hunting, and lots of other stuff.It can link to depressive feelings. The swamp maybe a recognition of this lack of motivation and energy and can jolt you into breaking out of your routine.

ReplyDeleteI think the bear symbolizes fighting for what you believe in. Like the fact that Sam and Chip fight for saving the bears. Also when the hunters fight for the right to hunt the bears. Also it might have a little to do with Tom disapearing.
